DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE EARLY!

The Dictionary defines purpose as “ Original intent, expected end, an intention or aim, a function of something”.  According to Myles Munroe “ Purpose is the original reason for existence, the cause for the creation of a thing. The desired result that initiates production, the end for which the means exist”.

Purpose is the force behind the fulfillment of destiny. Purpose is the secret of success. It is the key to realization. Life without purpose is pressure without reason. The bible says.

“The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have Purposed, so shall it stand”. (Isaiah 14:24). 

            However, God brought us into this world on a particular assignment and until we discover and adhere to the assignment our life will not have value. We are not a biological accident or product of mistakes or chance. Our background notwithstanding, we came to this world for a particular purpose.

            Having realized that God has a special purpose for we to achieve in life, we must seek to discover them. A well-defined purpose is required as a launching pad to fly high in life. Life without purpose becomes a burden. Our purpose in life is not for us to determined but to discover because our purpose has been Pre-determined before we were formed in our mother’s womb ( Jer. 1:4-5). 

Examine the likes of great men in the bible- Moses was created to deliver Israel from captivity. (Exo.3:7-10). Aaron was to assist Moses in Leadership task (Exo.4:13-16). Joseph was to help in keeping Egypt from perishing through famine and to enable his father and brethren survive the terrible famine. (Gen.50:19-21). Jonathan was to encourage and strengthen David and also help to preserve his life for kingship. (1kings 19:1-2). David was to be sweet Psalmist, warrior and leader of Israel. He was to formally establish the nation and give her a strong foothold among other nations. (1sam.16:1.18). Jesus Christ Himself was sent by God to come and save mankind from sins. (Matt. 1:21). Absolutely!

Examine the likes of great men in the world- Professor Chinua Achebe matriculated for medicine in the university of Ibadan, but in an outstanding rediscovery in his gifts and calling, he abandoned medicine and lost his scholarship. He then qualified in literary Arts and History. Today, he has to his credit a remarkable teaching career as a renowned professor with numerous publications as an acclaimed master of the prose worldwide.

There was a young man who was the best medical student in his school. When he was being given the first prize award at his induction ceremony, he remarked that he only studied medicine to satisfy his parents while his real innermost desire was to be a musician. Dearly beloved, it is not the will of God’s for our year’s to be wasted doing what God has not purposed for us. Let’s stop chasing shadows! It is right time we realized the truth.

                        STEPS TO Discover YOUR SELF!

Ø   Set time apart to engage in fasting and prayers and to wait upon God for days or  weeks in order to discover the divine purpose for your existence. Ask from God, he is your source and He knows you more than anybody. He is the revealer of secrets. (Daniel 2:22-28).

Ø  Go to a solitary place free from distractions where you can pray quietly and meditate.             Read. (Mark 1:35).

Ø  As you wait on God for direction, claim His promises in the scripture concerning       direction. Read (Psalm 25:31,32:8, 37:23, 48:14,86:11, Isa 48:17, 58:11 and many more).

Ø  Consult the Holy Spirit and trust Him to give you direction. Take time to pray in the spirit and allow the spirit to lead you. Read (John 16:12-13).

Ø  Study and discover your potentials. Be it talents, gifts, skills, training, areas of interest.

Ø  Recall and examine your past dreams and visions.

Ø Recall and examine the positions you have found yourself and the challenges that confronted you in the past.

Ø Any good things or virtue you always impart on people and it helps them to realize their dreams/visions with proofs can be a pointer to our calling in life.
